The Jerusalem Center’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the return of Amb. Dore Gold as its president. The Center, founded in 1976, is a research institute focusing on Israel’s security, regional diplomacy, and international law.
Amb. Gold returns after serving as Director General of the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 16 months. He served as the Jerusalem Center’s president from 2000-2015. He was Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations between 1997 and 1999.

In the Foreign Ministry, Amb. Gold oversaw a major foreign policy pivot to Africa, Asia and Muslim states. He was part of the prime minister’s team dealing with Eastern Mediterranean gas issues. The Israeli diplomatic team he led crisscrossed Africa, re-establishing a political dialogue with South Africa and meeting with senior officials from Guinea on the Atlantic coast to Chad on the Sudanese border.

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Response
Upon leaving the Foreign Ministry, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted, “Dore has been with me for 25 years. I am convinced that he will seriously take upon himself any mission, whenever he is asked.”
Returning to the Jerusalem Center, Amb. Gold stated, “I am pleased to be back. I plan on working with the Jerusalem Center’s extraordinary team of researchers and staffers.” Gold continued, “We are in the midst of a ‘war of ideas’ that only intensifies. Israel’s legal rights are under assault and even its historic rights are challenged in bodies like UNESCO.”

“In the coming year,” Amb. Gold said, “Israel will be commemorating the 100th year since the Balfour Declaration and the 50th year since the reunification of Jerusalem. Our Center will be on the front lines of the struggle for establishing the historical truths of these events.”
